Feral Foster

Feral Foster is a New Yorker with a spirit born of the South. Ian Carleton recovered this song from a set he shot on our New Orleans explorations; here's hoping it'll bring a little warmth to ya on this chilly December evenin'.

Bry Webb, You've Done It Again

CFRU's own Bry Webb has recently released the first single from his upcoming debut solo album Provider, coming out Nov. 15. "Rivers of Gold was written after Bry's first visit to Dawson City while touring with the Cons. Later the song resurfaced during his trip through the Gwaii Haanas in British Columbia with fellow musicians Jim Guthrie and Sarah Harmer during the filming of the National Parks Project; the surroundings were a natural fit. The song captures the peaceful emptiness of a vast wilderness."

Hear the stunning track and see his upcoming tour dates below.

Can't Lay Low

The title of this first Southern Souls recorded song may be 'First Kill', but don't be fooled - Lowlands has been killing it for weeks now. Just ask anyone who happened to catch their breath-taking set at this year's Pop Montreal. Or better yet, see for yourself below:

The Thrill Is Video

The Thrill Is Back video series has come to a close after twelve months of incredibly rewarding exploration. The folks we met on this journey have been nothing but outstanding and it has been our pleasure to bring their music to light. We have some thank yous that we need to share.

To all the musicians: Thank you for sharing some special moments with us. The stories you told and the music you made will not be forgotten. We've all cherished our moments together, however brief, and appreciate your openness and optimism towards our project. The passion presented through your craft is a testament to the good that exists in the world.

To the festivals: Thank you for your support and "go get 'em" enthusiasm. Thanks for letting us lie to you about who our "sound men" are, and, of course, thanks for all the free food and drink tickets you slipped our way. Thank you for not letting your stages collapse on us, and for sharing your internet passwords again and again.

Most important, we are so grateful for your efforts to gather such a wonderful collection of talent and spirit. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed.

To the internet: Thank you for being there, for being open, and for being appreciative of the work we are doing. It asks a lot of an audience to sit down and shut off their minds to Maru the cat and the other myriad distractions of the WWW, even if just for a few minutes. Our approach can take some time and understanding to get into so thank you for being able to sit still and soak up the music with us. It's been a wonderful ride.

The path for us is uncharted. Where we are headed we don't know. But our inspirations now draw from the great people and experiences we've encountered, so our future is most certainly in good hands.

David Suzuki

As we sign off from The Thrill Is Videos world we'd like to put a little notice.  We have a few videos that never made the series.  (gasp!)  Sometimes the time just wasn't right to run the pieces we had collected, sometimes they just weren't ready for where the series was (or vice versa).  We would like to take this opportunity to run some of them without any need for hype.  We won't be spamming the world when new pieces come online, but at least those who click through the series in the future will get to see the full set.

I'm going to kick things off by slapping up three incredible piece from the homeland.  Andy and Andrew were really hesitant on sharing these videos (Andy still hasn't consented to this) but I feel they are an important part of the collection and they need to be released with the rest of the project.

The two of them have this little endeavor called David Suzuki.  They are working towards having an album at some point in time with a handful of homegrown swampytonk folky blues magic tracks.  The initial plan was to save these videos until everything was ready but since we are closing shop for a bit I felt the series couldn't go without some content from the creators.

It has been a hell of a pleasure being able to run across the continent with such talented individuals as Andy and Andrew.  Singers, songwriters, substance abusers and pure souls -  these two speak, sing, swagger and spit from the heart.  Please enjoy these three from David Suzuki.

HILLSIDE 2011: Graveyard Train

When I talk to people about the highlight of Guelph's Hillside Festival this summer, a lot of great shows come up, and it's often too hard to pick. But what has been said, is that for all of those who happened to fit into the packed Lake Stage tent for the last show of Sunday evening can't imagine a better ending to the weekend. With the help of Quebec's Les Tireux d'Roches, Melbourne, Australia's Graveyard Train managed to gather up the meanest musical gang of chains, hammers, and axes I've seen this summer. In true Melbournian spirit, the boys were kind of enough to come hang out at a friend's campsite and play us some of the incredible The Devil, The Drink & The Dance.
